Kasa

OpenClassrooms project context :
As a freelance front-end developer for Kasa, I contributed to the complete redesign of a long-standing peer-to-peer rental platform. The site, previously built in ASP.NET, needed to be modernized using a modern JavaScript stack. The project relied on an existing Express.js API, Figma mockups, and a sprint-based backlog, with strong goals around performance, maintainability, and accessibility.

The mission was to rebuild a modern interface capable of supporting several user journeys: browsing properties, adding favorites, navigating to detailed listings, authentication, adding a property as a host, and messaging. It also had to meet precise UX requirements defined in the backlog, including keyboard accessibility, validated forms, local persistence of favorites, a conditional carousel, and consistency across the main pages.

In addition to the initial front-end scope, I also had to develop the real-time messaging backend so that the contact feature would be fully operational.

I developed the interface with Next.js, structuring the application around the platform’s main product journeys.

More specifically, I:

• integrated the homepage with property listings displayed as cards;
• developed navigation to the individual property pages;
• created a property detail page featuring:
• • an image carousel,
  • description,
  • amenities,
  • pricing,
  • conditional logic when the listing contains only one image;
• implemented a persistent favorites system using the Context API and LocalStorage;
• developed the login and signup flows;
• designed the property submission form with:
• • field validation,
  • photo uploads,
  • amenities selection;
• integrated a dedicated favorites page;
• developed user messaging with the ability to send messages to the host;
• built the real-time messaging backend myself to enable fully functional communication between users;
• addressed the accessibility requirements defined in the backlog, including:
• • alt attributes,
  • accessible buttons,
  • keyboard-navigable carousel,
  • properly validated forms.

The new version of Kasa offers a more modern, fluid, and consistent experience aligned with current web standards. The project covers concrete product features for both guests and hosts, with strong attention to interface quality, local data persistence, and real-time communication. This mission allowed me to strengthen my skills in Next.js, modern front-end architecture, and the implementation of targeted full-stack features.
